Manufacturing Consent

Following our look at Noam Chomsky’s film, I started to think about how the media might control my life. How does the media affect what I buy, what I believe, and how I view the world and myself in it? I then started to wonder how news agencies, advertisers, and government set about to influence my thinking. How do I compete or combat these forces so that I can remain autonomous? Serious questions, no?

How does the media affect you on a daily basis? Are you conscious of it? How many advertisements do you see a day? Think about these forces and share with the class your thoughts.

Here’s a recent video of Chomsky talking about the purpose of education, if you’re interested.
